Support For Prisoners

Advocate With CCF

CCF has seen that a strong defense takes place both inside and outside of the courtroom. Our experience has shown that building a grassroots campaign around cases, organizing community members to attend trials and hearings, and demonstrating outside of the courthouse in support of fairness and justice for defendants can lead to a victory in the case.

Additionally, prisoner advocacy campaigns are another way we intervene and mobilize the public. The “terrorism” label on these cases carries with it a range of abuses that target prisoners, whether it is in the courtroom or the prison cell. When prisoners are held in prolonged solitary confinement or experience harassment and violations of their religious freedoms, for instance, or denied their rights including medical attention, CCF organizes supporters to write letters and make phone calls to judges and prison officials.

Supporters can also play an important role by writing to judges and asking for leniency ahead of a sentencing hearing. Because of “terrorism enhancement,” our prisoners often face and receive very lengthy, decades-long sentences on manufactured charges.

CCF staff continues to attend important court dates, hearings, and sentencings, and write letters to the judge on behalf of defendants. The importance of this action can never be overemphasized! Stay up to date with our latest campaigns and events by signing up for our News Digest List
